Fished this loch last year in the second week of May, 2024 for the first time. This was my second ever visit to Assynt. Landed what was, still is, and potentially always will be, my biggest brown trout at just shy of 24 inches second cast in the shallow bay on the southern bank at the eastern end. There was a westerly wind blowing right down the loch and I had a small PTN on. A day I will never forget. I'd left my landing net on top of the car at the car park and only realised once I had the fish on. Luckily I was wearing waders and was able to land it by hand. I don't think I could have done that in many other places anywhere on the loch as it gets deep very quickly in most places. Other than that I never saw a rise or a fish move for the next three hours. I'll be back in June this year though I don't expect to catch anything like that fish again. I may not even fish Lochan Sgeireach again, just so I don't taint the memory.
