Loch a Bhraighe

Loch a'Bhraighe and Loch Torr na h-Eigin to its west are two large, joined lochs offering great sport in breathtaking surroundings. Not much by way of recent reports, so please let us know your catches.

Access is as for Lochan Fearna and Gorm Loch Mor from the track in Nedd and it is easy casting most of the way around, although the south eastern edge of Loch a'Bhraighe is very steep - try here from the boat.

Pop over to loch Torr nan Uidhean if you have time. It is best to avoid wading in these lochs as there are some very steep drops!

Boat: Loch a'Bhraighe has a boat which is a distinct advantage in covering the large water.

Beautful walk and surroundings caught 4 lovely fish all returned safely, largest on the 1lb mark and on deep fished nymph - very strange what is happening to Loch Torr nan Uidhean as the level must be down c10/15 feet and significant areas around the loch now very exposed including some of the islands - it makes it very clear how risky wading would have been around the edges of this loch - I can only presume that it is feeding into Loch na Loinne which inturn is feeding in to Loch Poll and then into the Assynt Crofters Hydro System - caught a stunning fish with massive red markings.

Fished this lovely loch at the earlier part of the season. A size 14 black Klinkhammer was the order of the day attracting free rising brownies, my best being about a pound.The best area proved the far shore out on a small promitory. There is definetly some much larger fish here at depth that can be tempted from the boat on a sinker.. as I found out with the bend in my rod,but never saw unfortunately.
Fished here numerous times and never have I been disapointed.

easy hike up but strong southerly wind made fishing the north bank impossible- a bit of a hike round the east side but found some sheltered bays- saw a fish but no bites and wind soon began to swirl but well worth coming back to.

Better quality fish in this Loch responding well to a single deerhair sedge pattern. They come from nowhere when you least expect it !! We caught about 15 fish to 12ozs. Beautiful surroundings with a view to die for on the walk back.

Very enjoyable day on boat, though the lovely cloud cover cleared rather too quickly. Caught half a dozen smallish fish, with long thin inlet on far shore the most productive spot.

Late Aug 2009. Can be dour with only occasional rises. Depending on wind and temperature try different depths and pulling through surface. Larger fish seem to be deeper. Evenings can come on for short spells to surface sedges. Buzzers and nymphs can work.
